Most Common Ways to Die in Australia From Natural Causes

admin | 13 January 2012

The life expectancy for Australians is one of the highest in the world, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The bureau says a male baby, born in 2011, can expect to live to 79.5 years while a female baby can expect to live to 84. This represents an increase in the life expectancy of Australians of 6 years for males and 4 for women since 1990.

The increase in life expectancy reflects better living conditions that have come with having one of the better standards of living in the world.

Advances in medical treatment, early detection and a widening of education on some diseases have contributed to a decline in death rates for Australians, says the ABS — one of the key factors in a rapidly ageing population. According to data collected by the ABS, heart disease remains the number one killer for Australians, followed by stroke, dementia-related illnesses and lung cancer.

A healthy diet and plenty of exercise has been shown to be very beneficial for promoting better health and may be a key factor in increasing longevity.

While you may be planning to live for decades to come, planning ahead, and making sure your loved ones are able to continue living in their accustomed style once you’re gone is an important legacy to leave. This can be done by taking out life insurance while you’re still healthy. This has the additional benefit that if you were to die unexpectedly from unnatural causes, there’d be a level of financial protection in place for your family’s future.
